5 Week 1B Intermediate Wheel Classes

Minimum Age 16+

2 hours of instruction time + 30 minutes of clean up

Level 1B: Intermediate Wheel Throwing Series Over five weeks, students will build confidence and consistency on the pottery wheel by strengthening the core skills introduced in Level 1. This course focuses on refining centering, improving control, creating consistent forms, and developing the techniques needed to progress into intermediate wheel throwing.

Prerequisite Completion of Level 1: Intro to Throwing or equivalent experience. Students should be familiar with wedging, centering, pulling walls, trimming, and glazing.

Approximately 12 lbs of clay is included for the course.

All tools, materials, glazes, and firings are included.

Week 1

Centering & Cylinders Strengthen your centering skills and throw 2-lb cylinders while focusing on even wall thickness by cutting your first piece in half, consistent height, and clean, straight forms.

Week 2

Bowls & Shape Control Throw 2-lb bowls while learning to control curves, maintain even wall thickness, and create balanced forms with greater consistency.

Week 3

Matching Forms Learn how to measure and throw matching pieces by creating a pair of mugs or bowls. Focus on consistency in height, width, and overall shape while developing repeatable throwing techniques.

Week 4

Trimming & Finishing Refine your work by continue to pratice trimming techniques, creating clean foot rings, and improving the balance and finish of your pieces, cut another piece in half to see how well you're trimming. Explore simple surface decoration such as carving or texture to add personality to your work.

Week 5

Glazing Complete your pieces by practicing your glazing skills and your finished work and preparing it for the final kiln firing.
