This foundational 5-week course will guide you step-by-step through the entire wheel throwing process — from preparing your clay to centering, shaping, trimming, and glazing your finished pieces.
You'll learn essential techniques for working with clay both on and off the wheel, building confidence and skill each week in a supportive, creative environment.
2 hours of instruction time + 30 minutes of clean up
Here’s what you can expect:
Week 1: Wedging, centering and pulling your clay on the wheel
Week 2: Trimming and throwing on your own
Week 3: Throwing a mug or a piece to attach a handle
Week 4: Handle Demo and learn to attach your own handle
Week 5: Glazing your pieces and preparing them for the final kiln**Each week, you’ll receive 2 pounds of clay, for a total of up to 10 pounds of clay included in your registration. Need more? Additional clay will be available for purchase during class. Your registration also includes the use of all tools necessary.
Special note: For your safety and comfort, please trim your nails and tie long hair back before class.

Curious about the pottery wheel but not ready to commit to a full course?
This 2-hour beginner wheel throwing workshop is the perfect hands-on introduction to working with clay on the wheel — no experience needed!
In this guided session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing, including how to center clay, form basic shapes, and explore the creative process of throwing on the wheel. With step-by-step instruction, you’ll create your own small bowl, cup, or vase.
What’s Included:
2-hour guided workshop to throw your own cup or bowl
All tools, clay, and materials
2 pounds of clay per participant (additional clay available for purchase at $5.60 per pound)
Firing and finishing of up to 2 selected pieces — choose from three glaze options.
Aprons provided
What Happens to Your Piece After Class:
Your piece will be expertly trimmed by your Instructor and dried slowly in a controlled environment, then will be bisque fired, glazed by our instructors, and go through a second glaze firing.
Finished pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 3 to 4 weeks
